RATTAN:
Rattan (derived from the Dutch word "Rotan") or Cane is used to describe a Vine like plant that grows abundantly in South East Asia. It is a member of the Palm family.

Rattan grows in a long slender stem that retains a uniform diameter along its length. Rattan has a solid porous core and is not hollow or brittle like Bamboo.
When heated by steam or blowtorch, Rattan becomes pliable and can be formed into a variety of shapes without cracking or breaking. When it cools it retains the newly formed shape. Due to these characteristics and its strength, Rattan is ideal for making furniture.

WICKER:
The term Wicker is used to describe the weaving of materials such as Cane, Sea Grass, Willow, Bamboo or other natural products.

When used in the manufacture of furniture, these natural materials are woven around a Rattan or Timber frame forming decorative wicker panels.
The move toward a contemporary trend in Rattan furniture sees the utilization of more and more fully woven panels in the design of each piece.
